What’s with the new digs?
I heard a song on my way home today, it was that song we all had heard by Wham! (George Michael), Careless Whisper.
I had to do a google search to find out who had done the cover…
It turns out it was Seether… A irrevelent band that hasn’t put out a song I could name…
You will hear that the song is much better as its original…
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good cover… i.e. J.J. Cale songs by Eric Clapton, we all know which ones those were… Damn, those were good covers…
So I did some thinking and did a search on the interweb… Here are some things I learned…
Cum on feel the noise, was originally done by a band named Slade, a band in which I had purchased thier album just had no time to listen to as of yet…
Damn these guys were awesome! I should really listen to my records once in a while….
Anyway, Cum on Feel the Noise was originally released in 1973 and re done by Quiet Riot in 1983…
Then you have Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On… Big Maybelle…
We know who this was covered by…. BTW I love this version so much better than the covers so I am not going to look them up…
And of course… Quinn the Eskimo….
The GREAT Bob Dylan…
But Manfred Mann did this best! So much groovier!!!!
Speaking of Manfred Mann….
Blinded by the Light… A cover of Bruce’s song….
Bruce has written a number of great songs…
Because the night was written by the boss and sung by Patti Smith (The ORIGINAL punk goddess) Anyone that sings a song called Rock and Roll Nigga on the same album as Because the night… has some serious balls…
Natalie merchant covered this song… (Because the night)
and the boss covered it as well…
Patti did it better…
Anyway, If I were to have a point in all of this… It would be that there are many ways to play notes… We call them songs… some redone are excellent… some should be left alone… It should never be left to the record executives to make that choice…
i.e. Seether…
